Ellen Wheeler's Official Statement of Candidacy

Statement of ELLEN WHEELER, Candidate for Governing Board Member, Mountain View-Whisman School District

Occupation: Attorney/Mediator      Age: 50
Education and Qualifications:

I'm running for your Trustee for 4 reasons: (1) Education – As a former teacher, mediator, family law attorney, and small business owner I feel qualified to deal with our district's complex issues while being mindful of what's best for our kids.  I'm also an incoming member of Leadership Mountain View.  (2)  Experience – I've worked on issues involving children and families for 30 years as a teacher and attorney. As a volunteer, I started with Project Head Start. When my older children were small, I volunteered in Santa Clarets parent participation schools.  Last year I volunteered on Bubb's PTA Board, School Site Council, and MVWSD's “Communication Action Team” (CAT), plus STAR Partners (Bubb's English improvement program for children).  (3) Commitment – I've dedicated my adult life to helping children and families.  (4)  Advocacy – I pledge to listen and be available to you.  Specifically, I'll hold office hours 3 school days a week and attend school functions throughout our district.

Endorsements: Juan Aranda, retired Trustee MVWSD; Russ Wood, outgoing President/Trustee MVWSD; Lynn Alvarado, retired Trustee MVLAUHSD; Kathryn Carpenter, Bubb's Literacy Liaison; Sherri Nichols, president, Monta Loma's CEL program; and Sherry Ernst, teacher, Washington Open (Santa Clara's parent participation elementary school).
